Learning to Use the Library

Welcome back, Wildcats! It’s been great to see you!

Last week was our first week back in the library. We watched our orientation video, discussed the different sections of the library,  and discussed how to love our library.  After we practiced using our shelf markers, we checked out books.

This week we have been enjoying going on a scavenger hunt in the library. It’s a fun way to review how to find materials.  Soon we will be using the same strategy to learn about different kinds of books in the Dewey Decimal section. The best part- our library is organized the same as Athens- Regional Library  Learning about our library will help us find books there.

We’ve also been discussing the importance of reading daily. We have to practice our reading in order toget better. We are all logging our reading this year. We are recognizing our August Reading Rock Stars Friday.  Don’t forget to turn in your reading log!

If you want to see what I (Mrs. Sugiuchi) am reading, check out my reading log.  It’s posted on the wall by the Smart Board.

Reading Rock Star Party, PLD Protocol, Upcoming Author Visit with Jennifer Holm

Last Friday we celebrated our sumeer Reading Rock Stars. Over 30 of our kids participated in a summer reading program. We signed the Readers Are Leaders banner, ate ice cream sundaes, and received prize bags loaded with book-related gifts from Avid Bookshop. We are very proud of our kids!

Last week we checked out over 400 laptops to our students and teachers. Every student grades 3-5 has the option to take their device home this year, provided their parents complete a training. Our first training is on September 18 @ 5:00. Students, make sure you follow these guidelines when using your devices.

Thursday, August 28, author Jennifer Holm will visit grades 3-5.  You can order her books in advance, or purchase when she visits. If you need an order form, stop by the Media Center.
