We’ve been reading lots of different books in kindergarten.  This week’s selection- Abuela by Arthur Dorros.  In Abuela, young girl flies around the city with her grandmother.  Our kids have been drawing their own illustrations of what they would see if they flew around Athens.  A recent field trip to Sanford Stadium is figuring prominently in much of our art!

Our 1st graders have been reading folk tales.  We have enjoyed contrasting Zomo the Rabbit with One Fine Day, and discussing similarities to fairy tales like the Gingerbread Man.  We have also been learning different folk songs to accompany our tales.

Our 2nd and 3rd grade have been practicing our research skills. We also have enjoyed learning about the history of Halloween and writing Halloween poems.

4th and 5th grade has been learning about how to compete in our Battle of the Books.  More information can be found here.

Each week, the kids and I discuss the importance of reading at home.  We have been recognizing lots of Reading Rock Stars, so many that we are tracking our progress on posters with gold stars.  Don’t forget- the next batch of logs are due November 18th.

Happy reading!
