Welcome, Wildcats! Happy Poetry Month! We love poetry here at Oglethorpe, and we have lots of fabulous poetry oriented centers for you to explore when your class visits the library. You can write poems, decorate poems, & read poetry all month long. Remember, if you would like to check out a poetry book, you can find them in the 811’s and 821’s.
This morning our fifth grade school champions traveled with Mr. Todd and me (Mrs. Sugiuchi) to Clarke Central High School to participate in the District Battle of the Books. We are so proud of their hard work! Make sure to congratulate Aida, Tavia, Leo and Jay for representing the Wildcats in the last battle.
Exciting news! Our intern Clarissa Raybon and I were awarded a grant from First Book UGA. We will be able to purchase books for all of our CLASE students to read with a mentor and take home next semester. We so appreciate Ms. Clarissa’s help, not just with this grant but for all her hard work. Make sure you thank our interns (Todd, Clarissa, Jane, Molly,Shelby, Kristina, and Laura Frances). They help make our LMC great!
And lastly, thanks to all of our students and teachers and families. It’s an honor to work with all of you!
Happy Reading!
PS: Super thanks to everyone for supporting our book fair. We raised nearly a $1000 which we will use to buy supplies and pay for special programming for our LMC.
Welcome back, Wildcats! Hope you had a great spring break!
Today author Nancy Krulik visited our Media Center. She shared excepts from each of her series, Katie Kazoo Switcheroo, George Brown, Class Clown, and the Magic Bone Series. She spoke with the 2nd grade about all aspects of the writing process. She stressed the importance of revising your work.
An anonymous benefactor donated money that enabled us to purchase five of Ms. Krulik’s books for each classroom. Another Wildcat friend’s donation helped Mrs. Sugiuchi purchase complete sets of all three series for our SLMC. We are all thrilled to read our gifts! Thanks to Janet Geddis, Rachel Watkins, and Will Walton from Avid Bookshop for arranging this visit and for making it a success!
Next week we are hosting our spring book fair. We are already excited about the books- we’ve been watching and discussing different book trailers this week. If you or someone you know would like to volunteer for the book fair, you can sign up here.
Next Monday @ 8:45 we will be hosting the 5th grade Battle of the Books in the cafeteria. May the most well-read team win!
